What LanePilot checks

Every LTL invoice is priced from a quote, a tariff, and a list of accessorial charges. Any of the three can drift. LanePilot compares what you were billed against what you were quoted and flags the gaps: charges that never appeared on your quote, accessorials you did not authorize, fuel surcharges applied at the wrong rate, discounts that were negotiated but not applied, reweighs and reclassifications you were never told about, and the same shipment billed twice.

The villain here is billing complexity, not your carrier. Most of these are errors rather than bad faith, and they are recoverable when you can point to the discrepancy in writing.

What you need

Two documents, both as PDFs. The carrier invoice, and the original quote for that same shipment.

The quote is not optional, and it is the part most tools skip. Without it there is no baseline, and an audit without a baseline is guesswork. It is the difference between saying a charge looks high and showing that you were quoted one number and billed another.

What you get back

A plain reading of whether you were overcharged on that shipment, which specific line items are wrong, and roughly what it is worth. Findings only, in under a minute, on screen.

What happens to your files

Your invoice and quote are used to run the audit and are not retained afterward. LanePilot keeps the result and the contact details you enter. Five free audits per company.

Common questions

Do I need any software set up before I can audit a freight bill?
No. This page is exactly that. You do not need an existing system, an integration, or even an account to check a single invoice. Bring the invoice and its original quote and you get an answer.
Why do you need the original quote and not just the invoice?
Because an invoice on its own only tells you what you were charged, never what you agreed to. The quote is the baseline every finding is measured against.
What is a reclassification charge?
A reclassification happens when a carrier decides your freight belongs in a different freight class than the one you booked, which changes the price. It is one of the most commonly disputed LTL charges, and it is recoverable when the original class was correct and documented.
Does this cost anything?
No. Five free audits per company, findings only, and no credit card.
What happens if the audit finds something?
Dispute letter generation is included on every plan, with a monthly allowance that starts at 2 a month on Free and is unlimited on Professional+ and above. LanePilot writes the letter for that invoice and you file it with the carrier yourself. LanePilot is a software tool, not a freight broker, and never contacts carriers on your behalf.
